Donald stays winning, thanks, in part, to Joe. Throughout the latter half of 2024, President Joe Biden kept handing his arch nemesis, Donald Trump, easy political victories. From the pardon of Hunter Biden to the first presidential debate early in the campaign season, Biden has demonstrated an uncanny ability to help Trump at pivotal moments, both before and after the latter’s re-election. Hunter Pardon By pardoning his son Hunter, Biden gave Trump “ carte blanche ” to pardon whomever he pleases in the next four years. Biden also sucked the wind out of the Kash Patel news cycle. Not a day before the pardon, Trump announced that he nominated Patel, an experienced and capable anti-Deep Stater, to helm the FBI. For conservatives, this was great news. For liberals, not so much. However, all the panic and propaganda spouting out from corporate media and cable news outlets is now drowned out by the pardon — that’s a victory for Trump and Patel. American Garbage In late October, President Joe Biden called Trump’s supporters “garbage,” ticking off half the electorate and setting off a torrent of well-deserved criticism. Not only did he force his vice president, Kamala Harris, into cleanup mode for the offensive remark, but he also gave Trump incredible ammunition for one of his more iconic campaign events. Outside of his shift working the fryer at McDonald’s and, of course, his iconic fist pump after he was nearly shot in the head, Trump pulled a hilarious and poignant campaign event by posing in a garbage truck after Biden’s insult. (RELATED: ‘Cleaning Up Kamala’ | WATCH NOW) Former President Donald Trump responded to President Joe Biden’s recent ‘garbage’ jab by hosting a press conference Wednesday from inside a garbage truck in Green Bay. (Screenshot/CNN) Hurricane Politics Biden threw Harris under the bus in early October amid Hurricane Milton, giving Republicans and Trump a perfect line of attack to frame the vice president as churlish and unserious, more concerned with stirring up drama than effectively leading in a time of crisis. While Harris played hurricane politics with Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, claiming he was “refusing” to answer her phone calls, Biden himself was on the line with the governor discussing the disaster response. Biden also praised the governor’s handling of the storm and said he was doing a “great job,” undercutting Harris’s claims. (RELATED: Joe Biden Appears To Throw Harris Under The Bus For Second Time In Just A Month) Impromptu Presser Again, it’s early October. A historic longshoreman strike and a union leader is threatening to “cripple” the United States economy. Harris is set to speak to union workers in the battleground state of Michigan, both a crucial demographic and venue. She was ready to speak on ending the strike and double down on her support of the dock workers. Well, too bad, Biden seemed to say. On the very same day, Oct. 4, Biden made his first-ever appearance in the White House briefing room, forcing all of the media to beam in and broadcast live from the capital. It couldn’t have been worse timing for Harris — and yet another boon for Trump. CNN was about to take Kamala Harris LIVE when all of a sudden Joe Biden simultaneously takes the podium from the White House: “She’s trying to appeal to union workers, and yet you have the President of the United States come out, clearly overshadowing her...” “Is that a... pic.twitter.com/xs64k9c719 — Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11) October 4, 2024 “We were about to actually go live with Vice President Kamala Harris, who is speaking right now in Detroit, Michigan. And apparently, she is talking about this port strike ending,” CNN host Boris Sanchez said on air. “She’s trying to appeal to union workers, and yet you have the President of the United States come out, clearly overshadowing her answering significant questions. Is that a communications mistake? Is the left hand not talking to the right hand in this situation?” Early Debate This one is a bit murky, but with 20-20 hindsight, Biden’s decision to debate so early before the Democratic National Convention ended up helping Trump. Why? Biden’s disastrous performance set in motion the coup that would see him replaced by Harris, arguably a worse candidate due to her lack of charm, off-putting personality and inability to discuss policy and ideas in an interesting manner. To be clear, Biden was not much better as a candidate. Despite his age, however, he still had far more charm and personal appeal than Harris. And after the results of Election Night and Trump’s total victory, it’s apparent the replacement of Biden, which started post-debate, was a blessing. (RELATED: ‘Cleaning Up Kamala’ | WATCH NOW) Transition Meeting For all the talk about Trump being a threat to democracy, for all the comparisons to a fascist dictator, one single meeting post-election erased months and months of Democratic propaganda. Biden sat down with Trump in the Oval Office to ensure that the president-elect would have a smooth transition into power. The two shared a handshake and a laugh. Is this how you treat someone who wants to destroy the country from within? Is this how you treat someone who has been likened to Hitler? Of course not. Biden gave Trump a huge gift by honoring the tradition of meeting with the newly-elected POTUS, helping rehabilitate his image with Americans more skeptical of Trump’s character and agenda — or, in other words, less skeptical of the White House and media’s anti-Trump propaganda. Sir Keir Starmer was speaking at the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) conference in Estonia where he met leaders of other Baltic states. After signing an energy partnership with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in Bergen, Sir Keir flew to Estonia where he spoke alongside Mr Store and their Estonian counterpart Kristen Michal. Asked what else could be done to support Ukraine, Sir Keir said: “There is an ever-increasing demand for more capability. That is understandable, and Ukraine needs all the capability that it can get, so I think all of us have put in more capability into Ukraine by way of equipment.” He added: “A lot of money has been raised, funding has been raised, but more is going to be needed.” The Prime Minister’s also discussed making the economic case at home for continued support for Ukraine. Sir Keir said: “Making the case on the significance of Ukraine, making the case, to double down, linking it back to each of our countries – what does it mean for us if Russia succeeds, is a really important question that we have to answer with our people to make it clear why it is that we are so supportive of Ukraine, why it is that we must stand with our allies on this, why it is we must make sure that Nato is put in the strongest position as well. “Now, this is a different world to the world of 10, 20 years ago, to recognise the world that we are living in, there’s a positive case as well to be made. “Defence spending doesn’t sort of sit in a silo over here with no effect on the rest of the economy, no effect on technology. “It has a huge effect on technologies, the cutting edge of technology and change which can then be used in other areas. “It binds countries together. I think all of us have got joint projects on in terms of defence capabilities that bind us together. There’s a huge number of well-paid jobs that are very important to our economy in defence spending as well. “But we have to make that positive case. I don’t personally feel that we can sort of sit back and assume that all of those in our respective countries necessarily accept all of our arguments unless we make them in that positive way, which I do think the argument can and should and must be made. “But the challenge that you put to us is the right challenge, which is it’s very difficult when finances are tight, as they are in all of our countries.” On Tuesday morning the Prime Minister will meet Taavi Madiberk, the founder of Estonian tech start-up manufacturing low-cost air defence missiles, Frankenburg Technologies, which is planning to open a new office in London Specialising in the manufacture of the missiles, the rapidly growing company already collaborates closely with the UK defence industry, sourcing a significant portion of its subsystems locally, including from propulsion specialists Roxel in Worcestershire. The Prime Minister will again attend the JEF summit, joining leaders from the Nordics and Baltics to discuss support for Ukraine, the sustained threat posed by Russia and wider European security. He will then visit British forces serving in the region to deter malign Russian threats.Advertisement Trump hopes to make his one criminal conviction disappear prior to his January 20 inauguration. He plans to argue in a filing Monday that he's immune from prosecution even now, as president-elect. Sentencing in the NY hush-money case has been indefinitely delayed by this latest dismissal bid. The US Supreme Court found in July that presidents enjoy broad immunity from prosecution. But is a president-elect also immune ? Advertisement In a filing due by day's end on Monday, lawyers for Donald Trump are poised to argue just that — that he's immune from prosecution right now . His hush-money case should therefore be immediately dismissed, and his 34 felony convictions wiped clean, his lawyers said last month that they plan to argue. "Just as a sitting President is completely immune from any criminal process, so too is President Trump as President-elect," Trump's legal team wrote the trial judge, New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan in a letter dated November 19 . Advertisement Monday is the defense team's deadline for spelling out to Merchan why a pre-inaugural Trump cannot be sentenced and why the whole case must instead be tossed — as if a nearly seven-year investigation and prosecution by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office had never happened. Trump was convicted six months ago on 34 counts of falsifying business records throughout his first year in office in order to retroactively hide a hush-money payment that silenced porn actress Stormy Daniels 11 days before the 2016 election. "On November 5, 2024, the Nation's People issued a mandate that supersedes the political motivations of DANY's 'People,'" Trump attorneys Todd Blanche and Emil Bove wrote to the judge on November 19, using the acronym for the District Attorney of New York. Advertisement "This case must be immediately dismissed," wrote Blanche and Bove, now nominated by Trump to be his deputy attorney general and principal associate deputy attorney general, respectively. Just how Trump leaps from presidential immunity to president-elect immunity has yet to be fleshed out. The legal precedents and federal regulations cited so far by Blanche and Bove bridge the gap indirectly, and lawyers for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg have promised to fight the claim that such a thing as presidential-elect immunity even exists. Advertisement "We believe these arguments are incorrect," Bragg wrote in response to the November 19 defense letter. Bragg's letter promises to counter this latest bid to dismiss the case. Prosecutors are due to respond to Monday's expected defense filing in a week, by Monday, December 9. Only after the judge decides if the case is dismissed can Trump's sentencing — already postponed three times — be calendared or canceled. And even if Merchan calendars it, Trump's lawyers have promised to halt the sentencing by immediately appealing his decision through the federal court system — to SCOTUS if necessary. Advertisement Donald Trump at his hush-money trial in New York in April, with New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan on the bench. Jane Rosenberg/Pool Photo via AP The argument that a president-elect has immunity So why does Trump believe he enjoys presidential immunity from prosecution even now, as president-elect? Related stories Blanche and Bove first tipped their hand on their arguments in a November 8 letter to the judge — written just three days after the election. In the letter, they argue that presidents and presidents-elect are pretty much the same thing when it comes to enjoying legal protections from prosecution. The two lawyers quote from a 2000 Department of Justice memo barring the federal prosecution of sitting presidents (the same memo cited by special counsel Jack Smith in last week's move to dismiss Trump's two federal cases .) Advertisement "The same complete immunity from criminal process of any kind extends to a President-elect during the transition period," Blanche and Bove write, without elaborating on how DOJ policy would extend to a state prosecution like the hush-money case. "There is no material difference between President Trump's current status after his overwhelming victory in the national election and that of a sitting President following inauguration," the lawyers wrote. A second argument for special treatment of presidents-elect, made repeatedly by the two lawyers in the past month, draws on the Presidential Transition Act of 1963, which provides for the "orderly transfer of Executive powers." Advertisement "President Trump has already commenced this complex, sensitive, and intensely time-consuming process," the two lawyers wrote of the transition on November 8. Continuing with the hush-money case would "be uniquely destabilizing" and threaten to "hamstring the operation of the whole government apparatus," the two wrote on November 19. Donald Trump leaves the courtroom after being found guilty on all 34 counts in his hush money trial in Manhattan. Justin Lane-Pool/Getty Images In the furtherance of justice Trump's lawyers have also argued that the case should be dismissed under New York law, which allows an indictment to be dismissed "in furtherance of justice." Advertisement A so-called interest of justice dismissal would require Merchan to find "some compelling factor, consideration or circumstance" under which continuing a prosecution "would constitute or result in injustice." Merchan would be asked to weigh the strength and seriousness of the offense, the extent of the harm it caused, and the "history, character, and condition of the defendant." He would also have to weigh "the impact of a dismissal upon the confidence of the public in the criminal justice system." Advertisement Blanche and Bove did not immediately respond to a request for comment on this story. A spokesperson for the Manhattan DA's office also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Indigenized Energy Names Lorilee J. Morsette as Chief Operating OfficerA petition calling for the “immediate suspension” of mRNA Covid vaccines has attracted a number of high-profile backers — including the man picked by US President-elect Donald Trump to lead the country’s main public health research agency. The Hope Accord, an online petition launched earlier this year, states that a “growing body of evidence suggests the widespread rollout of the novel Covid-19 mRNA vaccine products is contributing to an alarming rise in disability and excess deaths”. Such claims have repeatedly been rejected by public health authorities and leading medical experts. “This new technology was granted emergency use authorisation to address a situation that no longer exists,” the petition states. “Going forward, the burden of proof falls on those still advocating for these products to compellingly demonstrate that they aren’t resulting in net harm. Until such evidence is presented, regulators should suspend their use as a matter of standard medical precaution.” The petition was co-created by Dr Joseph Fraiman, a Louisiana-based ER physician and medical researcher. Dr Fraiman was the lead author of a study last year that reanalysed Pfizer and Moderna’s original randomised trials, concluding that the rate of serious harm from the vaccines was one in 800, far higher than previously suggested. Dr Jay Bhattacharya, a vocal critic of Covid lockdowns who has been picked by Mr Trump to run the National Institutes of Health (NIH), called Dr Fraiman’s study “probably the most important paper during the pandemic” about Covid vaccines. Stanford University infectious diseases specialist Dr Jay Bhattacharya. Picture: Supplied “It was a very rigorous paper and I think [it] had probably the biggest impact in my thinking about the safety of vaccines,” Dr Bhattacharya said in a July interview with Dr Fraiman for his podcast, The Illusion of Consensus . Writing on X at the time, Dr Bhattacharya said the debate had convinced him to sign the petition calling for the vaccines’ regulatory authorisation to be pulled. “I hesitated to sign because I was concerned that some patient groups may still benefit from it,” he said. “Joe, very reasonably, asked me how we could know who falls into those categories. The answer, of course, would come from randomised clinical trial evidence with solid clinical endpoints like prevention of long Covid, hospitalisation or death. “By the end of the debate, Joe had convinced me that not pulling the authorisation makes it more likely that we will never get good clinical trial evidence testing to check whether such groups still exist in a setting of widespread recovered immunity.” New on my Illusion of Consensus podcast, I debate with @JosephFraiman on his HOPE Accord, a public petition to restore ethics to public health and to pull regulatory authorization for the marketing of the covid mRNA vaccine. I hesitated to sign because I was concerned that some⦠— Jay Bhattacharya (@DrJBhattacharya) July 11, 2024 Dr Bhattacharya’s public support for the petition is noteworthy as he could soon be in charge of the NIH’s $US47 billion ($74 billion) annual budget, which funds research into vaccines, cancer and other diseases. His nomination would need to be approved by the Senate. The Hope Accord petition also calls for a “comprehensive re-evaluation” of the safety and efficacy of all Covid vaccines, including a “full exploration of mechanisms of harm to provide insight into their impact on the human body, both short and long term”. “Effectiveness must be reassessed through a comprehensive review of actual clinical impact on illness and mortality, as opposed to synthetic results based on modelled assumptions,” it states. A vaccination centre at University College London Hospital. Picture: Tolga Akmen/AFP ‘Conspiracy theories’ British cardiologist Aseem Malhotra, who co-created the petition, published an open letter on Tuesday in response to a long-running disciplinary probe by the UK’s General Medical Council (GMC) over complaints he was spreading “Covid vaccine misinformation” and “conspiracy theories”. “There is undeniable evidence that there are serious risks associated with Covid-19 vaccine for at least some individuals,” he wrote. “At this point in time, the evidence of the Covid mRNA product doing significantly more harm than good is overwhelming, even for the highest-risk groups.” Professor Angus Dalgleish, head of oncology at St George’s Hospital in London, and Australian immunologist Robert Clancy, Emeritus Professor at the University of Newcastle, have backed Dr Malhotra’s claims in letters of support provided to the UK medical practitioners register. “Two of the world’s pre-eminent experts in oncology and immunology respectively feel there is strong mechanistic and clinical evidence through different pathways, including prolonged immunosuppression and DNA contamination, [that] the Covid mRNA vaccines cause cancer,” Dr Malhotra said. Prof Dalgleish, a prominent Covid sceptic , stated that he had “witnessed an outbreak of melanoma relapses in patients that had been stable on my immunotherapy treatment programs for over five to 18 years”. British cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra. Picture: GB News “The only thing they had in common is that they had all had booster vaccines which as predicted were causing T cell suppression,” he wrote. “I continue to see these relapses as well as rapid cancer progression after these totally unnecessary boosters. The tragedy is that all oncology doctors are seeing this but are afraid to speak out with a few exceptions.” Prof Clancy, who was denounced by the University of Newcastle in 2021 as “not an expert” on Covid after controversial comments supporting the use of hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin, said in his letter that the mRNA vaccines had “attracted a forest of red flags including unprecedented mortality and morbidity, unknown genetic confusion, and disappointing clinical value”. “Why is it that all doctors are not screaming for review of mRNA vaccines?” he wrote. Dr Malhotra is also supported in his GMC complaint by former Australian tennis champion Pat Cash, now a BBC commentator, and Jay Naidoo, a prominent South African trade unionist and anti-apartheid leader. “My advocacy to suspend the Covid-19 mRNA vaccine is not an isolated voice,” he wrote. “The longer the General Medical Council, the Secretary of State for Health, and the Chief Medical Officer delay on acting on this, the greater the harm to public health, the further decrease in trust in the medical profession, and the more strain on an already failing NHS.” A health worker prepares a dose of the Covid vaccine. Picture: Justin Tallis/AFP ‘No credible evidence’ Claims that Covid vaccines have contributed to a rise in excess deaths have repeatedly been rejected by the Australian government, including the Department of Health and Aged Care and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), as well as independent bodies like the Actuaries Institute, which maintain there is “no credible evidence” supporting such a link. The Health Department, which encourages Australians to “rely on reputable sources of information”, says Covid vaccines “have been thoroughly assessed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and found to be safe and effective”. “The TGA checks all Covid-19 vaccines for quality, safety and effectiveness before approving them for use in Australia,” it states on its website . “This is the same process that all vaccines go through in Australia. Medical experts at the TGA continuously check all vaccines to make sure they are safe. Vaccines are only approved for use in Australia after they have been assessed to show that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh any risks.” The Health Department notes that “millions of people around the world have now had Covid-19 vaccines, giving us real evidence and data that support using the vaccines” and “clinical trials and real-world data show that Covid-19 vaccines are highly effective at preventing severe illness”. Modelling by Monash University and RMIT earlier this year suggested the vaccine rollout saved nearly 18,000 lives in NSW between August 2021 and July 2022, during the end of the Delta wave and the arrival of Omicron. The World Health Organization (WHO) says that in 2021 alone, Covid vaccines “saved at least an estimated 14.4 million lives worldwide”. A recent paper in the journal Vaccines estimated the timely rollout of Covid jabs resulted in overall benefit to the Australian economy of $181 billion. frank.chung@news.com.au More Coverage UK professor rips Aussie Covid ‘madness’ Frank Chung Devastating warning for the next pandemic Jessica Wang Originally published as ‘Emergency no longer exists’: Doctors call for Covid vaccines to be pulled to reassess safety Read related topics: Donald Trump Illness Don't miss out on the headlines from Illness. CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals have found all manner of ways to lose close games this season. Sunday's 44-38 loss to AFC North rival Pittsburgh can be blamed on a defense that missed tackles and allowed 520 yards of offense, and three turnovers by Joe Burrow. It's become a familiar story in this disappointing season. Cincinnati (4-8) keeps scoring lots of points but can't close out games. Seven of the Bengals’ eight losses this year have been by one score. Burrow has stopped talking about the possibility of going on a run and making the playoffs. He'd just like to win another game or two. “Playoffs are the furthest thing from my mind,” the fifth-year quarterback said. “You never know what can happen, so I’ll keep putting one foot in front of the other and try to be the best player I can be for the rest of the season, week in and week out.” The Bengals allowed Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson to throw for a season-high 414 yards and three touchdowns. After Wilson threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown, the Steelers (9-3) scored on seven of their last nine possessions. They didn't punt until early in the fourth quarter. Burrow lost two fumbles and threw an interception. “We haven’t done enough to earn the win,” coach Zac Taylor said. “It’s a simple as that. It’s nobody else’s fault but our own. We haven’t earned it.” Turnovers aside, Burrow had another strong game, finishing with 28 for 38 for 309 yards with three touchdowns. Burrow is having a great season statistically, and he hasn't hidden his disappointment and frustration about Cincinnati's narrow losses. ... WR Ja'Marr Chase had a touchdown catch to bring his league-leading total to 13. The defense missed tackles and couldn't hold off the Steelers, even with Burrow keeping the game close. It didn’t help that LB Logan Wilson (knee) and DT Sheldon Rankins (illness) had to sit out. The Bengals have allowed 34 or more points six times, including in four of the past five games. Cincinnati became the first NFL team to lose four games in a season in which it scored 33 points or more. RB Chase Brown has been dependable as the featured back since Zack Moss went down with a neck injury. He rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown against the Steelers. He also had three catches for 30 yards. The second-year back has 677 yards rushing and six TDs. “He’s really coming along, improving his game every single week,” Burrow said. “Pass game, run game, running hard, understanding his protection responsibilities. He’s a guy that practices hard, plays hard, and a guy you can count on.” The Bengals' coaching staff. Something has got to give. There was no excuse for the defense to play this badly after a bye week. The unit gave up 500-plus yards for the second time this season. None were reported in the game. 30.3 — The average points per game by the Bengals against teams with a .500 or better record this season. They are 0-7 in those games. The Bengals will try to regroup before facing the Dallas Cowboys (5-7) next Monday night. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFLSingapore, Dec. 17, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Webuy Global Ltd.
